Description

Technical Specifications (Material Focus)
The 2-1/2" Reduced Pressure Assembly with OS&Y valve is engineered with a robust ductile iron body complying with ASTM A536 standards, optimized for residential fire protection systems. Internal components consist of stainless steel springs and fasteners—specifically from the 300 series—to resist corrosion and ensure longevity under varied environmental conditions. The assembly incorporates high-grade EPDM elastomer seating for reliable, reversible sealing against backflow. The OS&Y (Outside Stem and Yoke) gate valve is crafted from cast iron with a rising stem design, facilitating straightforward operation and visual status indication.

Regulatory Compliance
This assembly is manufactured to comply with essential regulatory standards necessary for residential fire sprinkler systems. It meets UL 312 certification for backflow prevention assemblies, ensuring it successfully prevents contamination of potable water supplies. Additionally, it satisfies ASSE 1013 standards specific to reduced pressure principle backflow preventers. The unit aligns with NFPA 13 and NFPA 25 codes, underpinning its suitability for standard installation, inspection, and maintenance requirements in residential fire protection setups.

Operational Compatibility
Rated for a maximum working pressure of 175 PSI (12.1 bar), the assembly supports the typical residential water pressure range without performance loss. The device maintains operational integrity within a temperature range of 33°F to 140°F (0.5°C to 60°C), accommodating typical domestic water temperatures. Connection interfaces feature a 2-1/2" National Pipe Thread (NPT) configuration and flange options compliant with ANSI B16.1 standards, allowing for flexible integration with existing fire service piping layouts. The OS&Y valve's rising stem facilitates easy system isolation during maintenance while providing clear status feedback.

Use Cases and Practical Insights
Ideal for residential fire protection applications, this reduced pressure assembly prevents backflow contamination in fire sprinkler systems fed by potable water lines. Its design is tailored for homeowners and residential property managers seeking reliable, code-compliant safeguards without the complexity of commercial-grade devices. The OS&Y gate valve supports routine operational testing and maintenance without requiring full system shutdown, minimizing downtime. Compared to alternative assemblies lacking OS&Y valves, this product enhances operational visibility and serviceability, reducing long-term maintenance costs.

The assembly robustly counters common backflow issues such as pressure fluctuations and potential pollutant ingress from auxiliary water sources, ensuring continuous protection of potable water supplies. Its capacity to resist harsh environmental conditions also makes it suitable for installation in both interior mechanical rooms and protected exterior enclosures.

For optimal performance, it is recommended to install the assembly in an accessible location to facilitate regular annual testing mandated by NFPA 25. The unit’s durable construction supports longevity even in demanding residential fire system environments, providing a dependable line of defense against contamination risks.
