Description

Technical Specifications (Material Focus)
The 3" Reduced Pressure Assembly N Pattern with OS&Y valve is engineered for residential fire protection systems requiring dependable backflow prevention. The main body is constructed from rugged ductile iron, meeting ASTM A536 standards, finished with a corrosion-resistant epoxy coating to withstand residential mechanical environments. Internal components, including springs and fasteners, are manufactured from 300-series stainless steel to ensure durability and resistance to corrosion. The checks incorporate precision-molded thermoplastic components for consistent performance and reliability under fluctuating pressures. The OS&Y (Outside Screw and Yoke) valve features a robust cast iron body with a rising stem design that provides visible confirmation of valve position, facilitating reliable manual operation and ensuring system integrity.

Regulatory Compliance
This assembly complies with stringent industry certifications critical to fire protection and potable water safety. It holds UL Listing as specified under UL 262 for Reduced Pressure Principle Backflow Preventers, ensuring it meets nationally recognized safety and performance standards. The assembly is FM Approved for use in fire protection service, confirming suitability for life safety applications. It fulfills ASSE 1013 requirements, aligning with American Society of Sanitary Engineering standards for reduced pressure backflow assemblies. Additionally, its design supports compliance with NFPA 13 for sprinkler system installation and NFPA 25 for inspection and maintenance protocols, integral for residential fire protection systems.

Operational Compatibility
Rated for a maximum working pressure of 175 PSI (12.1 bar), this assembly is suited for typical residential water supply conditions. It operates efficiently across a temperature range of 33°F to 140°F (0.5°C to 60°C), accommodating seasonal variations in residential plumbing environments. The unit's connections adhere to standard 3-inch NRS (National Pipe Straight) threaded configurations, ensuring compatibility with common residential fire system piping. The N Pattern design facilitates optimal water flow dynamics, reducing pressure loss and maintaining effective water delivery to fire suppression systems. The OS&Y valve enables straightforward system isolation for maintenance without system shutdown, an important feature for residential fire safety upkeep.

Use Cases and Application Insights
Specifically designed for residential fire protection installations, this assembly addresses the challenges of maintaining potable water safety while ensuring robust fire suppression readiness. It is ideal for single-family homes and small residential complexes where space constraints and ease of maintenance are paramount. The visible OS&Y valve status indicator simplifies regular operational checks, reducing the need for specialized inspection tools. The N Pattern configuration reduces clogging risk by promoting smooth internal water passage, critical in residential water systems prone to particulate buildup. Suitable for installation both indoors in mechanical rooms and outdoors in protected vaults, it adapts seamlessly to varied residential installation scenarios.

Benefits Over Alternatives
Unlike generic backflow prevention assemblies, this model combines the reduced pressure principle with an N Pattern layout and an OS&Y valve, offering a balance of effective backflow prevention, easy operational visibility, and maintenance convenience. Its material selection ensures longevity even under periodic exposure to temperature fluctuations common in residential settings. The configuration supports quick valve operation to isolate the device during inspection or repair without interrupting the overall fire protection system functionality, minimizing downtime and maintenance costs.

Installation and Maintenance Considerations
The assembly’s design facilitates straightforward installation with standard 3-inch connections and clear valve positioning. Technicians benefit from the OS&Y valve’s visual feedback on open/closed states, simplifying routine inspections required by NFPA 25 standards. Annual testing access is facilitated by integrally placed test cocks, allowing performance verification without disassembling the unit. For residential installers, this product reduces complexity, enhancing compliance with local fire code mandates while securing the potable water system from contamination risks inherent in fire suppression infrastructure.
