Description

Technical Specifications (Material Focus)
The 2-1/2" Reduced Pressure Detector Z Pattern with OS&Y Valve is constructed with a robust combination of materials tailored for durability and reliable operation in residential fire protection systems. The main body is typically heavy-duty cast iron with corrosion-resistant coatings to ensure longevity in various environmental conditions. Internal components, including the OS&Y (Outside Screw and Yoke) valve mechanism, utilize stainless steel or equivalent corrosion-resistant metals for precise valve actuation and extended service life. The Z pattern flow path is engineered to minimize pressure loss while maximizing flow efficiency during activation.

Regulatory Compliance
This detector assembly meets key industry standards critical for fire safety and plumbing code adherence, including:

  • UL Listed for compliance with fire protection device regulations ensuring product reliability in emergency scenarios;
  • FM Approved, confirming suitability for fire protection applications in residential environments;
  • Meets ASSE standards applicable to backflow prevention and detection devices, ensuring protection against cross-contamination;
  • Compatible with NFPA 13 and NFPA 25 guidelines, supporting installation and maintenance protocols for sprinkler and water-based fire systems.

Operational Compatibility
Designed for standard residential fire systems, this assembly functions optimally at pressures up to 175 PSI (12.1 bar), accommodating typical municipal and private water supply conditions. The OS&Y isolation valve includes a positive visual indication of valve position, simplifying system inspection. Connection options generally include NRS (National Pipe Straight) threaded ends or grooved configurations compliant with industry standards. The detector’s Z pattern layout offers a compact footprint optimal for installation in constrained mechanical spaces, and supports both horizontal and vertical orientations, ensuring integration flexibility with existing plumbing orientations.

The integration of the Reduced Pressure Zone detection element inside a Z pattern configuration provides enhanced system response by enabling precise detection of backflow conditions while maintaining low pressure drop. The OS&Y valve adds reliable isolation capabilities for system servicing without disruption. Ideal for residential fire sprinkler systems requiring an assembly capable of early contamination detection, this product balances ease of maintenance with regulatory compliance, reducing downtime during testing or repair.

Its vivid red finish facilitates quick visual identification during inspections or emergencies, and the unit is constructed to endure typical residential water supply variable pressures and temperatures without degradation. This product is specifically suitable for fire system installers, plumbing contractors, and facility managers focused on code-compliant, low-maintenance solutions that maintain water supply integrity in residential fire protection networks.
