Description

Technical Specifications (Material Focus)

  • Main Body: Constructed from ductile iron with a durable fusion-bonded epoxy coating to resist corrosion and mechanical wear.
  • Internal Components: Comprise 300-series stainless steel springs and fasteners engineered for long service life in fire protection environments.
  • Valve Type: N Pattern Reduced Pressure Detector Valve designed with a grooved butterfly mechanism for precise flow control and quick response to pressure changes.
  • Seats and Seals: Utilize high-grade elastomeric materials compatible with potable water systems, ensuring positive shutoff and leak prevention under varied operating conditions.
  • Grooved Ends: Compliant with AWWA C606 standard for grooved mechanical joints, facilitating secure and vibration-resistant pipe connections.

Regulatory Compliance

  • UL Listed: Certified under UL 312 Standard for Reduced Pressure Principle Backflow Preventers, verifying performance and safety.
  • FM Approved: Factory Mutual approved for fire protection system integration, ensuring reliability under emergency conditions.
  • ASSE Standard: Meets ASSE 1013 backflow prevention device requirements for reduced pressure assemblies.
  • NFPA Compliance: Designed to meet NFPA 13 (Installation of Sprinkler Systems) and NFPA 25 (Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance) standards, including provisions for detector valve use and maintenance protocols.

Operational Compatibility

  • Pressure Rating: Rated for continuous operation up to 175 PSI (12.1 bar), suitable for various municipal and industrial fire protection system pressures.
  • Temperature Range: Operational between 33°F to 140°F (0.5°C to 60°C), supporting both indoor and outdoor installations in temperate climates.
  • Connection Method: Grooved end connections conforming to AWWA C606, facilitating straightforward integration into existing grooved piping networks with a mechanically secured coupling.
  • Installation Orientation: Supports horizontal or vertical piping orientations (with upward flow), enhancing flexibility in system design and retrofit applications.

The 6" Reduced Pressure Detector N Pattern Grooved Valve offers a reliable backflow prevention solution tailored for fire protection systems requiring detector valve integration with grooved piping. Unlike simple check valves, this product provides continuous monitoring capability by integrating a differential pressure detection mechanism that triggers system alerts on pressure anomalies, enabling faster response to potential backflow conditions.

This valve is ideal for fire sprinkler systems where early detection of backflow or leakage is critical to maintaining fire system readiness and compliance with local regulations. The use of grooved connections streamlines installation in mechanical rooms or underground vaults where pipe vibration and thermal expansion are factors, reducing maintenance downtime and enhancing system longevity.

Compared to traditional flanged valves, the grooved butterfly design reduces overall assembly weight and labor costs during installation. The incorporation of stainless steel internal hardware minimizes corrosion risk and extends maintenance intervals, critical in high-demand fire protection environments.

Maintenance personnel benefit from built-in test ports that comply with NFPA-required annual inspections and pressure testing, facilitating straightforward operational validation without system disassembly. Owners can expect reliable performance over service life, mitigating risks of fire service delays caused by faulty or degraded backflow prevention devices.

In summary, this 6" Reduced Pressure Detector N Pattern Grooved Valve serves professionals in fire protection engineering, plumbing contractors, and facility managers seeking a robust, code-compliant solution that ensures potable water integrity while maintaining rapid response detection capabilities in fire sprinkler systems.
