Description
Technical Specifications (Material Focus)
The Viking Swing Check Valve Model D-1 G-1 features a body constructed from ASTM A536 ductile iron, providing high tensile strength and enhanced durability required for fire protection systems. Internal components include stainless steel hinges and shafts designed to withstand mechanical stress and prevent corrosion. The valve disc is engineered to swing freely, facilitating minimal pressure drop and rapid closure to prevent reverse flow.
Regulatory Compliance
This swing check valve is UL Listed under UL 312 for check valves used in fire protection. It is FM Approved according to Factory Mutual standards specific to fire safety equipment. Additionally, the valve conforms to the protocols outlined in NFPA 13 for the installation of sprinkler systems and NFPA 25 concerning inspection and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems.
Operational Compatibility
Rated for system pressures up to 175 PSI (12.1 bar), the Model D-1 G-1 supports seamless operation within wet, dry, and deluge sprinkler system configurations. Connection options include NRS (nominal raised seat) or grooved ends, enabling versatile integration with standard piping layouts. The valve’s swing check mechanism is suitable for both horizontal and vertical pipeline orientations (with upward flow), ensuring consistent performance in diverse installation environments.
The Viking Model D-1 G-1 Swing Check Valve addresses key challenges in fire protection systems by reliably preventing backflow that could compromise potable water supplies and system integrity. Its robust ductile iron body resists the elevated mechanical and environmental stresses common in fire suppression scenarios, reducing the risk of in-service failures and maintenance downtime. By enabling unobstructed forward flow while rapidly closing upon pressure reversal, it ensures system readiness and operational reliability during fire events.
This valve fits the needs of fire protection professionals requiring dependable backflow prevention for commercial, industrial, and institutional applications. It is engineered to integrate effortlessly within existing fire sprinkler layouts, providing flexibility for retrofits or new installations without frequent custom modifications. The straightforward swing check design reduces potential clogging or jamming risks often encountered in more complex mechanisms, thus lowering inspection and servicing efforts.
Installation tips include verifying proper valve orientation to prevent water hammer effects and ensuring compatibility with upstream and downstream fittings rated for the declared pressure limits. Routine testing in accordance with NFPA 25 protocols, utilizing pre-installed test ports or external gauges, facilitates consistent verification of valve function and system integrity.
